Blog Post #1 - Week 3
Augmented Reality Brings New Dimensions to Learning
Augmented Reality Brings New Dimensions to Learning
“Educators
know that learning deepens, not just through reading and listening, but also
through creating and interacting. With Augmented Reality products like Elements 4D by Daqri, students manipulate and combine elements -- like
mercury -- right from their Android or iOS devices, rather than just reading
about them in a textbook” (Nesloney, 2013).
“Another
app, Aurasma, allows users to engage in and create Augmented
Reality experiences of their own. Educators and (more importantly) students can
use this open source tool to essentially bring their learning to life”
(Nesloney, 2013).
I
thought this blog post was interesting.
The “Harry Potter” reference made me think of the Great Wolf Lodge and
the interactive activities that they have set up for kids there. Parents and students alike get extremely
excited about the interactive activities.
The
author is absolutely correct when he wrote “Most people who interact with AR
for the first time have a mind-blowing experience but fail to consider
classroom applications” (Nesloney, 2013).
This article actually made me start thinking about all of the ways that
I could use these types of applications listed above to set up interactive art
lessons for my high school aged students.
I am definitely going to check these out!
